Sham & Karon 1974

My interest in showing dogs began in 1971. As a teenager, I worked for a boarding and grooming kennel in West Los Angeles, where I learned the art of all-breed grooming and became familiar with attending dog shows. The first dog I ever took into a show ring was an English Setter, owned by my employer. Pictured is Ch. Srinagar Samskrita of Sultan (photo 1974, enroute to our first points), my first Saluki and first champion.

Ch. D'Moshire's Hollywood Swinger was my first multiple group winner. He was the son of "Sham" (Ch. Srinagar Samskrita of Sultan) from my first Saluki litter whelped in October 1974. I won six Group First with "Hollywood", under notable judges, Wallace Pede, Hayden Martin, Tom Stevenson, MSG H.B. Cox, Robert Ward and Derek Rayne.

Hollywood and I, winning Hound Group First under judge Tom Stevenson at the Sooner State Kennel Club, October 1978. Hollywood was a proud, upstanding, if not a bit arrogant at times, Saluki. (1974 - 1988)

MBIS Ch. Moshire Twentieth Century-Fox was sired by Hollywood out of my 1975 acquisition, Am/Can Ch. Windsong Urvasi. "Pooh" was a top ten Saluki for several years, and still has one of the finest Group One to Best In Show ratios in the Breed. Four times Group One, Three times Best in Show. All owner/breeder handled.

Pooh & Karon 1982
BIS, Karon & Pooh 1980

Pooh's first Best In Show, April 27, 1980, Flatirons Kennel Club, Boulder, Colorado. Entry: 1,125 dogs. Judge: Ernest Loeb. Pooh became very well known for her showmanship, always enjoying every moment in the ring and giving the crowd a show. She was equally a joy to live with. She graced my life for thirteen years. (1977 - 1990)

Our second Best In Show, March 27, 1982, Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club, Denver, Colorado. Entry: 1800+ dogs. Judge: Del J. Glodowski. Pooh whelped her two litters in-between the first and second, and second and third Best In Shows. The first, in 1980, to Multi BIS Ch. Raven Hill Jonathan Sundown, and the second, in 1982 to "Raven's" sire, the famous Ch. Euphrates Springtime Jaadan. Pooh won her third and final Best In Show at the Mount Ogden Kennel Club, October 9, 1983 in Provo, Utah, under judge Fernandez Cartwright.

Pooh's second litter, whelped August 19th, 1982 was the pivotal litter for my bloodline. Jaadan was "the missing link" and solved the inconsistencies in neck set and topline I'd sought for ten years. The resulting litter yielded six champions and their contribution to a number of top kennels is well documented. This 1982 litter was Jaadan's last litter.

Ch. Moshire Springtime Jasmine was chosen to stay with me at three weeks of age. She easily finished her bench championship at a young age with several Best of Breed wins from the classes over top specials. She was well on the way to her NOFCA coursing titles when I lost her at only three years of age in a tragic accident. I was most fortunate to have bred her to Curt Reis' top coursing dog, BISS Ch. El Char Azali Amir Ibn Isis CC, CM, whelping her litter of five in the summer of 1985.

Jasmine
Jasmine at Santa Barbara

"Jasmine" was known for her fluid, racy outline, beautiful head and expression and light, floating movement. We are pictured here in the Summer of 1983 at the Santa Barbara Kennel Club.

From Jasmine's 1985 litter sired by "Azali", came two important Salukis who have influenced various bloodlines. Moshire Wild Fire CC, CM, FCh. was owned and coursed by Dinah Ellingson, sired two litters and the progeny are laced in the pedigrees of kennels such as Phenix, Uziduzit, Shalom, Amala, Sunsprint, Laa Yudaani and TSH. "Kiowa" (pictured here), Ch. Moshire Wild Illusion CC, CM, FCh, was also owned in her youth by Dinah and later came back to me. Kiowa whelped two litters. The first bred by Sara Winsted, to her BIS Ch. Moshire Springtime Prophecy and the second, bred by myself, to Obi-Wan Saru of Phenix CC, CM, FCh.
